I don’t know how I missed this when it went online a couple weeks ago, but Quick Stop Entertainment’s Chris Stipp has posted his interview with Chuck’s Zachary Levi and Joshua Gomez at Comic Con has gone live and is a blast to watch.  Part 3 of the interview has a random interruption that’s just kinda surreal to watch.  Make sure you check it out!

extortion

All the way back on August 22nd, Warners Brothers President Jeff Robinov stated that the studio was going to be reintroducing the character of Superman. After the ridiculous gobs of money earned by The Dark Knight, the studio figured that the correct direction was to be “dark”.

SG Cinema Flashback - Purple Rain

Posted in Cinema Flashback by ethan on the October 23rd, 2008

So I’ll admit that I wasn’t alive when this film was unspooled into cineplexes worldwide, but yet I can still admire it for everything it is. Well maybe “admire” isn’t the right word. Well either way, I can see what a crazy piece of 80’s nostalgia it is.

I, like many other music aficionados, consider Prince and The Revolution’s “Purple Rain” to be one of the greatest rock albums ever made in the history of the universe that we live in. And well, I think many consider this to be one of the greatest films ever made featuring leotards. Okay, maybe that’s debatable. But Purple Rain is indeed a fantastic motion picture. Well, actually probably not. It just has all that amazing music. It manages to elevate a pretty laughable movie into a genuinely moving film experience.

Ethan takes a look at a life misunderestimated : Oliver Stone’s W.

W. poster

Now, as anyone who knows me in real or at least follows me on twitter knows, I am a pretty hardcore liberal. Heck you could call me a “Neo-lib”. So I of course despise the 43rd President of the United States of America, George W. Bush, with every ounce of my soul. I look at that man and see a clueless, evil chimp that has ruined a country I’ve wanted to live in most of my life. And since Hollywood is a pretty liberal town, many other filmmakers feel the same way. So we’ve had many comedic jabs from the likes of Saturday Night Live and David Letterman from more serious attacks from many of last year’s Iraq movies. But have we had a real look at this man? At who he really is?

SGR Episode 52 - Movies Based On Books

Posted in Episodes by Dave on the October 16th, 2008

Hey everyone.  This is audio from our first live streaming show on Sunday.  The audio while streaming may not be up to our usual quality, but this release will always be at least decent.  Unfortunately, due to a screw-up on my part, I ended up having to cut our discussion of Critters and The Godfather Part II.  Show notes should be up by tomorrow.

ScreenGeeks Radio Live Tomorrow at 3:30pm EST

Posted in Episodes by Dave on the October 11th, 2008

After we completely failed at streaming last week, we’re giving it another shot this week!  In a page stolen directly from the /Filmcast, we’re going to be recording live tomorrow on Justin.tv at 3:30pm EST.  As if getting just sound wasn’t enough, we’ll also have a webcam going as well.  We aren’t set up to use Skype yet, but you’ll be able to talk to us during the show using the chat box.

There will be two ways to access the show.  First, you can click on the upper right hand side of the site where it says SGR Live, and that will take you to a widget that we’ve been having a little bit of problems with.  Your other option is to go directly to http://www.justin.tv/screengeeks and meet up with us there.  At least one of us will probably be in the chat room starting at about 3:00pm EST while we’re getting set up.  Hope to see you tomorrow!

Weekend Box-Office Predictions - October 10th to 12th

Posted in Articles by ethan on the October 10th, 2008

Somewhat of another “eh” weekend at the box-office. There are a few appealing films but none have gotten that great of buzz. So basically don’t expect anything as big as Eagle Eye or Beverly Hills Chihuahua. We have in wide release Body of Lies, Quarantine, The Express and City of Ember.

Body of Lies should open at #1. But sadly, it’s been getting pretty meh reviews. It’s being sad that its Iraq war subject matter will turn off moviegoers. But to be pretty honest, from the ads I honestly cannot tell that this is about Iraq. I mean, it’s clearly about the middle east and terrorism, but I don’t think it’ll turn off moviegoers too much. And the star power of DiCaprio and Crowe will help it quite a bit. So expect a solid 20 Million opening.

Quarantine, which is a remake of the excellent Spanish horror film [REC], should get a decent amount of the Halloween audience. Though the people who got motion sickness from Cloverfield will probably stay away in droves. So I’d say about a 9 Million opening.

Both The Express and City of Ember are appealing to the family audiences. Maybe The Express a little less obviously but the PG-rating will be lucrative. And it’s football season, so expect NFL fans to give this a solid turnout. Expect about a 10 Million opening. City of Ember looks interesting but I wouldn’t be surprised if it looks too “weird” for most families. So I’d say about a 7 Million opening.
