What the heck is that Creative Commons thing?
So, you’ve probably noticed the new little picture and some jargon talking about our licensing at the top of the page.
This is just us protecting the rights to our work and really doesn’t change a thing as far as your listening/reading experience.
Essentially, it’s just us laying down the rules under which we allow our work to be used, both with our articles and the podcast. It’s pretty much a legalese way of saying that anyone can use any of our stuff (whole, or a segment) that they want, as long as they attribute it to us. If you’re curious about what this is about, click the button up top or check out http://wwww.creativecommons.org for more information.
Moviegeeks.org Is Going Away
Looking at our stats, there aren’t many people getting to us by going to moviegeeks.org. If you’re one of those few people, please change your bookmarks to go to ScreenGeeks.com. I won’t say who is going to moviegeeks.org in our place quite yet, but you’ll still want to check it out. It’s going to be a good home for some good guys. The change over will happen in the next few days, so I just wanted to give everyone a heads up.
Website Issues
I just wanted to post and let everyone know that the website is having some issues. It looks like the server that SG is on is getting overloaded. I’m looking into solutions, but things might be a bit off and on for the next day or so as far as being able to access the site and the shows. I’m working on getting things moved over to a new server, so please be patient.
ScreenGeeks In Flux!
Hey everyone. I just wanted to let everyone know why your regularly scheduled show is not up yet. Well, life just got a bit more complicated, but good in Dave’s home. We ended up adopting a dog this weekend and are in the midst of getting her settled, which has taken up all of my free time this weekend.
We recorded Saturday night and then Barry and I guested on another podcast that we’ll talk about once it goes live. We’ll have an article from Barry today and should have the new episode up tonight.
Yup, More Updates
Well, I’ve moved the RSS Feed and Twitter links to the right hand side, and we have our first advertisements. We’ve decided that instead of just getting a Google ad or some other ad network, we would seek out advertisers that fit what we’re about and can be complimentary to our content.
I actually watched/listened to the Rifftrax version of Transformers and it really is a blast. We’re going to try to do reviews of different riffs once in awhile. These guys still have their “A” game and we’re psyched to have them advertising on the site. We’re looking into a couple other sites that we may also add, but we will NEVER to popups and we’ll try to keep the ads from being much more intrusive than what you see now.
More Updates…Now With Twitter and RSS Feed!
We’re getting ready to record this week’s show in about three and ahalf hours, but I’ve added a couple things that will hopefully make listening to the show and keep up with what we’re up to a bit easier.
Both buttons are located on the header of every single page you may read. The first is where I’ve finally created a link to our Twitter page. It’s mostly going to be about cool news and stuff I’m watching. I’ll try to keep the silly personal stuff to a minimum, and you just might hear about SG goings on there before you even it here. The second is more the result of a recent forehead-slapping moment of clarity than anything. I realized that there is an RSS feed for the entire page, but the only other way to listen to the show through an RSS feed is either through iTunes or the Zune marketplace. Well, that’s been fixed. If you click the RSS button, you will be taken directly to the feed for both ScreenGeeks Radio and the SG Film Snob.
So follow us on Twitter and feel free to ask questions or leave comments! I tend to check it at least a couple times a day and I WILL respond.
Minor Site Updates
We’ve received some great feedback from Ethan’s post about things we can do to make the site better and we really appreciate it. We are working on a site redesign, but that’s a fairly big task, so we’re doing little things right now.
The first thing that can be noticed is that we now have a Contact Us page. That will give you all the info you need to get in contact with us. There, you’ll find our voicemail number, Skype voicemail info and basic e-mail stuff.
Secondly, I’ve finally added info in the About page for both Josh and Ethan. This includes a brief blurb about them, their top 10 favorite movies of all time and how to get in contact with them.
I am working on getting some forums up and running. I’ll make the location public once I get some anti-spambot stuff installed as well. So, you can see that we’re working on getting things upgraded a bit. It’s led to some columns not coming out yet, but don’t worry. My list of stuff worth getting in the last few days of the Deep Discount sale will make you drool and make your wallet scream and bleed.
Please, feel free to contact any of us with suggestions as to how we can improve things around here. This is a creative outlet for all of us that has the potential to become something more. We all really are humbled that any of you spend your valuable free time listening to us or reading something we put up. We want to keep you coming back for more, so let us know what we can do! Unless we start making goo-gobs of cash that lets us all quit our day jobs, this will probably never be a major news site. What we hope we’re doing is giving you intelligent discussion about film that’s fun and accessible. We’re also going to be including more TV as well.
Voicemail Line Is Active!
I mentioned this on the show a couple of weeks ago, but it bears talking about on its own. You can now leave us a voicemail at (719) 387-1804. I have it on good authority that some famous people may be leaving us messages in the future. If you leave us a voicemail, we’ll play it! And yes, this includes you, Jabba.
Dave’s E-Mail Is Hosed
I apologize to all who may have e-mailed me and not recieved a response or got an error back. Apparently, my e-mail is possessed, so I’m nuking the whole thing and recreating my account. I should be up in about an hour or so, just in case anybody cares.
Update: My account should be working properly now, so if I haven’t responded to your e-mail, please kindly send it again to dave@screengeeks.com
