Starfest Interview: Vincenzo Natali

I personally love getting to do interviews where I can geek out a bit. My talk with Splice director Vincenzo Natali fit that description perfectly. I get a chance to chat with him about how Cube has its roots in Hitchcock and the state of 3-D before we get to his newest film. Our thanks to Mr. Natali and the good folks from Warner Bros. for letting us have time to talk.
Splice comes out in theaters on June 4, 2010
Starfest Interview: Gary Lockwood
We really lucked out at Starfest this year. It’s seriously almost impossible to pick out a favorite of the convention. Barry’s talk with the true gentleman, Gary Lockwood, definitely ranks up there. It’s not often that you get the chance to talk to a man with a varied a career as Mr. Lockwood. I talked with people who were at his Q&A, spent considerable time with him at a special meet and greet and I got to listen in on every interview he did. The man didn’t repeat a story in all that time. I get the feeling we could have spent days with him and have died happy hearing all his stories.
If you EVER get a chance to see Gary Lockwood live, I can’t urge you enough to make the trip. You won’t regret it.
Starfest Interview: Ford Austin and Jed Rowen
We’re back with another of our interviews and this one ended up being a bit of a shock to me. I figured that Dahmer vs. Gacy would be a bloody good time, but I didn’t expect what I saw on the screen. What easily could have been simply a b-movie schlockfest had some great social satire and commentary hidden in plain sight for anybody who wants to find it. I’ve included the trailer below. As you’ll see, this movie is definitely for the more adventurous filmgoer, but you’ll be rewarded with some great absurdism if you want to take the trip.
Editor’s Note: This interview is intended to mature listeners due to the discussion of adult subject matter and language.

Starfest Interview: Summer Glau

It’s time to start posting some interviews from last weekend’s Starfest, and I figured I may as well start off with a big one. I was VERY lucky to be one of two people who had a chance to sit down and talk with one of the sweetest people I’ve ever had the pleasure of sitting down with in Summer Glau.Instead of going into the uber-geeky stuff talking about the actual series’ of Firefly and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, I made the concious decision to talk with Summer about the acting challenges and opportunities both shows presented as well as what kinds of roles she wants to take on in her career. If you ever get the chance to catch her at a convention, I’d highly recommend doing so.
You’ll be able to hear more about her new upcoming show, The Cape, in the interview she did with Jonja.net when they post it. It sounds like a fun show.
Sorry for the poor audio quality. I’ll be exclusively using our podcasting rig for interviews next year.
Interview: Kevin Atkins

It’s impossible to think of Starfest without immediately thinking of the convention’s MC, Kevin Atkins. Known for awful jokes during lulls and keeping the ship on course, Kevin’s an awesome guy and we jumped at the chance to talk to him right before Starfest. We’ll talk about how Starfest stacks up to other conventions, the state of the US space program and other interesting things.
Interview: Lloyd Kaufman

Yeah, so we interviewed a LOT more people than just Lloyd Kaufman, and we couldn’t possibly be happier about it. Joining us for the interview (from left to right) are Matt Morris, Lindy Starr, Richard Taylor and Zach Beins. What results can only happen when visiting with denizens of Tromaville.
Just in case you aren’t familiar with Troma films, you probably shouldn’t listen to this interview if you’re offended by jokes about Michael Jackson, Pat Robertson, various projectile body fluids and…oh yeah, plenty of swearing. If you ARE familiar with Troma films, you’ve probably already started listening to the interview half way through this paragraph.
We had a great time talking with everyone and can’t thank everyone enough for taking the time to talk with us!
Interview: Everybody’s Fine director Kirk Jones

I haven’t heard Barry rave about a movie like this in awhile. He’s already seen Everybody’s Fine twice and is planning on taking his whole family to see it when it releases. Obviously, we jumped at the chance to speak with director Kirk Jones when he brought the film to the Starz Denver Film Festival. It was a fun interview and we thank the good folks over at Miramax for the opportunity to talk with Mr. Jones.
SDFF Interview: Beetle Queen Conquers Tokyo director Jessica Oreck
We’ve still got a couple more interviews in the works from the Starz Denver Film Festival. Getting to talk to Jessica Oreck, the writer and director of Beetle Queen Conquers Tokyo, was a real treat. This is a fascinating and beautifully shot film that definitely needs to be seen.
SDFF Interview: Touching Home directors Logan and Noah Miller

The Starz Denver Film Fest interviews just keep coming! This time, Barry had the privelage of talking with Logan and Noah Miller, directors of Touching Home. Barry talks to them about casting Ed Harris as their dad and how they came to make their first feature and even write a book about it. It’s a fascinating listen!
SDFF Interview - Win or Lose: A Summer Camp Story director Louis Lapat
And the hits just keep on coming, kids! This time up, Barry got the chance to talk to Louis Lapat, director of Win or Lose: A Summer Camp Story. One of the things both Barry and I love about the Starz Denver Film Festival is the chance to discover great movies like this. There’s really no other way that we can find these gems and we love talking to the filmmakers because we’re fans of good film and want to get the word out as much as possible!
Also…I had to bleep an f-bomb from Barry for the first time in our podcasting career together.
