ODDSAC (the Animal Collective movie) trailer hits the interwebs
Being at least somewhat of a hipster, I was legally obligated to post this trailer. This is not really a film but a “visual album” from the best band in the world, Animal Collective. Just judging by this if you’re one of the people who’s only knowledge of the band is through “My Girls” you might be a little freaked out by what you’re seeing. This looks far more “Hollinndagain” than “Merriweather Post Pavillion” and I guess I’m open to that.
ODDSAC is currently playing at Sundance and for all we know could become the next “The Wall“…but it’s far more likely that it will just be some art project that a few weeks from now won’t see more than the closet of Noah Lennox/Panda Bear.
Sam Raimi Is Off Spider-Man 4
Wow. I’m a bit shocked not only by this development, but the direction the franchise is going. Just in case you’ve been hiding under a rock for the past couple hours, Ain’t It Cool has confirmed that Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire are off the Spider-Man franchise. Not only that, but Sony is going to reboot the series a whopping 10 years after is started.
Aronofsky Might Be Leaving Robocop
It’s no secret that I’m not a fan of remakes. However, there are times where an idea intrigues me enough that I really want to see how it turns out. Darren Aronofsky’s Robocop is one of those projects. Aronofsky has never once struck me as the kind of guy who will do any project if there are enough zero’s in the paycheck. If he takes on a project, he has a specific vision and idea of what he wants to do.
Well, it looks like he may be walking away from this project now, according to Moviehole. Apparently, the project is on hold because the studio wants the film to be in 3D and Aronofsky isn’t interested in going that route. I have to say that I applaud Mr. Aronofsky for willing to stick to his guns.
Paul What Script Anderson To Ruin The Three Muskateers In 3D
Paul W. S. Anderson has written a script AND is set to direct a new take on The Three Muskateers according to Heatwave. This is to be an updated film with the feel of a period piece. In the words of the auteur himself:
“We are definitely modernizing The Three Musketeers without compromising the fun of shooting a period piece,” said Anderson, who hopes to shoot in France and Germany. “But in our film, corsets and feathered hats don’t take center stage. Our version is rich in eye-popping action, romance and adventure.”
Confession time… I have enjoyed a few of his flicks. The style Anderson uses is more of the “Hey see how cool this looks!!!” without really wanting or needing to make any sense. Which means that while this version could be better than 2001’s The Muskateer there is no chance it can outdo Disney’s 1993 version.
The good adaptations of this story usually have a good chemistry between actors portraying the Muskateers, well thought out action sequences and a rousing sense of adventure.
Anderson’s version will have 3D.

There are also plans in the works for screenings in Chicago, IL and Ft. Wayne, IN. There is also talk of a couple European dates possible. I know that UCCS is still working out how the screening will work. We will give you more information as soon as we have it.
There are two screenings, however, that I’d like to draw your attention to. Yes, both screenings are in Colorado Springs. If the film is coming near you, make every effort you can to catch it. If you can make it down for either of the Springs screenings, we’d personally love it.
I’ve been blessed and honored that Jamin and Kiowa asked me to introduce the film on September 16th and moderate the Q&A afterward. It should make for a great time. The screening at UCCS on October 9th will be moderated by Barry and should be a great experience for all hardcore film geeks. At least Barry and I will be at both screenings, and Melissa should be coming to the 9/16 screening as of right now as well.
As more screenings are announced, we’ll post about them here. You seriously need to see this movie if you have the opportunity to do so.
F4 officially getting ‘booted

Hot off the heels of yesterday’s big announcement concerning Marvel (look at the last post of the site), we get another major comic-book related item of news. This being that The Fantastic Four will officialy be rebooted. This according to always awesome and pleasing Variety. Batman & Robin mastermind Akiva Goldsman has been hired to oversee the project to make sure that it inevitably goes into a dark, gritty direction. Yes 20th Century, stop making sense. In addition a writer from the show that everyone wonders why it’s still on the air, Heroes, has been hired to make words come out of the mouths of the characters. My take on all of this? Wait for the next paragraph, I want to draw this out.
Disney Buys Marvel Ent. For $4 Billion
Huge news has hit this morning that will not only affect comic fans, but superhero movie fans as well. It was announced this morning that Disney is buying Marvel Entertainment for roughly $4 Billion. This means that Disney will own all of the comic and movie rights that Marvel now has. I see this as having some VERY interesting ramifications. Check them out after the break.
The Blob Remake WILL Suck…
but not for the usual reasons. It really is easy to take aim at remakes and just shoot them down because they can’t live up to the source material. Sometimes, though, a film is ripe for a remake. I tend to feel this way about The Blob. I think properly done, it could make for a fun movie that has great kills and can be campy without losing its credibility. However, if we’re to believe the Variety article, Rob Zombie isn’t looking to go that direction.

Toy Story 1 and 2 3D Trailer
Leave it to Pixar to not only bring 3D to one of their classics, but make it almost irresistable. Both movies for the price of one ticket? It’s absolutely brilliant and a great way to get people pumped up to see Toy Story 3. This trailer was shown before the Ponyo screening I was at last night and while there wasn’t cheering, the theater was definitely excited and buzzing after seeing this.
Terry Malick’s Tree of Life coming this year!
NOTE : I am aware that it’s Terrence Malick. But I once saw George Lucas refer to him as Terry. And I like that.
According to Barry’s bible, Variety, Terrence Malick’s latest will be coming just in time for Christmas this year. This comes as a major surprise seeing as how Malick likes to take his time when it comes to making and releasing his movies. So naturally many expected this to be out next year. Of course the major talk about the movie has been about it coming to IMAX and containing dinosaurs. The former might not (actually absolutely has zero chance would be more accurate) happen seeing as how IMAX theaters will be pretty busy showing both A Christmas Carol and Avatar around that time. It looks like if Malick wants to get his movie seen he might need to get Sean Penn in a motion-capture suit and have him playing a photo-realistic looking T-Rex.
So even though I was pretty bored by the foliage-porn that was The New World, I’m still mad at myself for not seeing it in the theater. Because Malick’s films are definite events. Days of Heaven and The Thin Red Line both rank amongst my favorite movies of all-time. So some time this holiday season prepare for the cinematic experience of voice-over, shots of trees, dinosaurs and people under the age of 50 walking-out.
