The Newest Senseless Remake: Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid

Posted in Movie News by Billy Flynn on the April 6th, 2009

Normally I try to approach the world with an open mind. Just a few years ago my New Year’s resolution was to cut the drama from my life. No needless worries… no anger… or to quote Dante Hicks in Clerks “Sometimes you gotta let those hard to reach chips go”

Then sometimes I get news that just causes all of the darkness to rage within.

Tom Cruise And John Travolta Might Remake Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid

Still hoping this ocuold be a delayed April Fool’s…….

DiCaprio Wants To Remake Wargames and Why It Won’t Work

Posted in Movie News, Editorial by Dave on the February 18th, 2009

wargames.jpg

This one has been brewing in my mind for a couple days now.  WarGames is one of my favorite movies from the 80’s.  I remember my folks taking me to see it and how much my dad loved it and still loves it.  Well, /Film is reporting that Leonardo DiCaprio wants to remake WarGames.  I know this is going to be a shock, but here’s an internet guy about to say that it’s going to suck.  What might be different is my reasoning as to why it’s going to suck and how it can’t possibly work today.  I’ll explain after the jump.  *WARNING:  GEEKY EXPLANATION AHEAD*

Ghost Rider 2? Really?

Posted in Movie News by Dave on the January 29th, 2009

For the love of Pez people!  WHY do we need another Ghost Rider movie?  The first one was downright awful, and this is coming from a man with a special place in his heart for the terrible Captain America and Dolph Lundgren Punisher.  I wish I could say I don’t know anybody who liked this movie, but I do.  It should have been an R-rated affair that belongs in the same world as the Blade movies, but it was a nice big fat ball of suck instead.

Regardless of my opinion, apparently we’re getting a sequel according to Blood Disgusting.  I could see the point of this if a reboot was being discussed with a new cast, similar to what happened with The Incredible Hulk.  It would make sense to make a film that lives up to the potential that this character has.  To bring back Nicolas Cage tells me that we’re going to get another crapfest.  My only question is:  Didn’t we, the audience, suffer enough the first time through?

Leave It To Deadpool To Bring Me Back To Wolverine

Posted in Movie News by Dave on the January 22nd, 2009

Ok, so it’s no secret that X-Men Origins:  Wolverine is undergoing reshoots at the moment.  Hugh Jackman even went as far as to e-mail Harry Knowles over at AintItCool.com.  What people haven’t known, is what those reshoots entail.  Well, /Film has just posted that apparently, those reshoots involve the merc with a mouth, Deadpool.  Apparently, Deadpool is going to figure into the movie now as more than just a cameo.

With the reported change of his character, I’ve been more than a little skeptical of Jackman and crew letting Ryan Reynolds really let himself be Deadpool to the level he can be.  I understand that this movie is PG-13, but if (by some miracle) Deadpool takes off, I’d really hope for an R-rated spinoff that would be absolutely insane.  The fact that they’re focusing on Deadpool for the reshoots intrigues me to the point that X-Men Origins:  Wolverine is officially back on my radar.

Oh, and if you want an idea of just how messed up Deadpool is, click the thumnail below.  Don’t blame me, though.  You’re the one who clicked on it.

12 Rounds Trailer Gives Hope

Posted in Movie News by Dave on the January 22nd, 2009

Ok, so it’s no secret that we have an odd interest in the acting career of WWE Wrestler John Cena.  The Marine really made an impression on us.  It’s been awhile since a movie has been THAT bad and THAT entertaining at the same time.  I mentioned back on episode 61 what WeAreMovieGeeks had the poster for Cena’s newest cinematic entry, 12 Rounds.  With the poster being a cross between the 16 Blocks poster and a Bourne poster, my hopes were raised that this could be as fun as The Marine.

With that in mind, I sought out the trailer, which is available on YouTube.  This looks fun and I just HAD to share.

Troma and Lloyd Kaufman Come To Colorado!

Posted in Movie News, Cool Stuff by Dave on the January 20th, 2009

Following a rowdy, randy party, Lloyd Kaufman and his Troma Studio team came to the Esquire Theater in Denver, to promote the TromaDance film festival, take questions and screen their studio-defining classic, The Toxic Avenger.

For the uninitiated, a little bit of back story: Troma is the oldest independent film studio in America (celebrating “35-years of Reel independence”) and specializes in sensational, campy, sex and gore-drenched movies that were big in the VHS and drive-in era of the 80’s and are still popular guilty pleasures today. In addition to the four films about Toxie, “The First Superhero from New Jersey”, Troma has also released the colorfully titled Surf Nazis Must Die!, Class of Nuke ‘Em High, Rabid Grannies, Redneck Zombies, Tromeo and Juliet and the critically acclaimed Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead. They’ve also distributed Cannibal: The Musical from Trey Parker and Matt Stone of South Park fame, and the stylish, scary Def By Temptation, which got great reviews and is the film Wes Craven’s Vampire in Brooklyn tried to be.

Steven Spielberg and Will Smith to work on Oldboy remake

Posted in Movie News by Dave on the November 7th, 2008

A remake was bound to happen, but I’ll admit I didn’t expect this.  /Film is reporting that Steven Spielberg and Will Smith are in talks to collaborate on a remake of Chan Wook-Park’s Oldboy.  To echo Peter Sciretta’s sentiment, this movie IS going to be remade.  It’s just a matter of who is going to be involved.  Where I differ, however, is that the most talented people possible should be the ones to make it.

Track with me here for a second.  If you’ve seen the movie, you know as well as I do that there is no way that the twist is going to make it to an American sequel.  PETA wouldn’t let the octopus scene happen and since it’s Will Smith, it’s going to get cut to a PG-13 (see Hancock as an example) to maximize box office potential.  With the brutality, darkness and it’s generally jacked up feel being stripped away, this is pretty much going to be a no-win scenario.

With all of this in mind, I suggest that we get talented people as far away from this as possible.  It’s no secret that I haven’t been a Spielberg fan for the better part of 10 years (with Catch Me If You Can being the notable exception), but I still respect his filmography and don’t want to see him or Smith take the brunt of geek backlash.  Dreamworks needs to get either Brett Ratner or Paul W.S. Anderson to direct Dolph Lundgren in the remake so we can all put this inevitable pile behind us as soon as possible and pretend it never happened.

Quantum of Solace Theme Song Revealed

Posted in Movie News by ethan on the September 18th, 2008

Another Way To Die, the new Bond theme song has been released (some would say leaked) online. It’s a collaboration between Alicia Keys and Jack White. What do I think? I think it kind of rocks. But I’m a pretty damn big White Stripes fan. And I loved the much maligned You Know My Name from the last film. So make up your own damn mind.

Breaking News: Return to Sleepaway Camp

Posted in DVD News, Movie News by Dave on the July 24th, 2008

Good friend of the site, Brad Rusk from Colorado’s own Horrorfest, just e-mailed me and told me that Return to Sleepaway Camp has not only finished filming, but it has been picked up by Magnolia Pictures and will be released to DVD on October 14th.  He got the word from someone close to the production of the film.

The Sleepaway Camp series is cult-classic slasher film series.  I know that Barry is going to be extremely curious to check this out.  Click the picture below to get a sneak peak at the first trailer preview.
