The DeepDiscount.com 25% Off Sale Is On!
It’s been FOREVER since I’ve put up a DVD pick, but the twice-yearly sale is on over at Deep Discount. Instead of just putting 20% off all dvd’s (including HD-DVD and Bluray), they’ve upped the discount to 25% and as always they offer free shipping until 11/23. I’ll update this post a little later today with recommendations, but until then, get what you want and at checkout use any of the following coupon codes (Please use DVDTALK first as they get credit and DVD Talk is where I get all of my DVD deals from):

There are just too many great suggestions to post, so I’m going to suggest that you check out the thread about this sale over at the DVD Talk. Only check it out if you’re willing to be broke, though. The thread also has details about the DVD Planet 25% off sale as well.
SG DVD Picks Special Deal At SecondSpin.com
I know I’ve been slacking on the DVD picks and deals, but I came across a killer deal yesterday and had to share. If you listen to Howard Stern, you already know about this, but over at the DVD Talk Forums came word that SecondSpin.com is currently running a sale with 20% off all their dvd’s and cd’s with free shipping if you use the coupon code heynow. Second Spin has an awesome store in Denver and the prices on this sale aren’t too bad. Most (if not all) of their stock is used, but I’ve ordered from them before and everything has been in completely prisine condition. Here’s what I picked up just as a referrence point:
-Birds of Prey: The Complete Series $19.99 (Amazon: $28.99)
-12 Monkeys DTS edition $5.59 (Out of Print)
-The Magnificent Seven 2-disc Collector’s Ediditon $3.98 (Amazon: $14.99)
-The Sound of Music 5-Star Collection 2-disc $11.19 (Out of Print)
-The Empire Strikes Back Theatrical/special edition $9.59 (Amazon: $14.99)
Sound of Music and Empire are titles I’m replacing that our new dog destroyed, but there are some great deals to be had out there like the 2-disc Criterion edition of Traffic for $8.00. It’s well worth checking out. Happy hunting!
SG DVD Picks For 7/14/08
Sorry we missed a couple weeks, but we’re back with the DVD’s we like. I’m not going to lie to you. The pickings are slim, but the Deal Of the Week is amazing. We’ve actually got a two-fer going this week. What’s interesting is that there is quite a variety of stores with best prices on different movies. On with the goodness!
Huge E3 News: XBox Live and Netflix Partnering!
I’ve really made a point of not bringing video games to ScreenGeeks too often just because it isn’t our focus. This news, however relates directly to movies, tv, and home viewing. I first read about this over at Major Nelson’s Twitter page and it’s been posted officially by XBox 360 Fanboy that Netflix is partnering with Microsoft to bring content to XBox Live.
This is HUGE news for those of us who have both XBox Live and Netflix. Details haven’t come out about how it’ll be downloaded, download limits, etc., but my guess would be that you’ll be able to access a good chunk (if not all) of the current Netflix Watch It Now library, which has titles that number well over 10,000. And now it’s becoming official why Microsoft has been dragging their feet on putting out a Bluray drive. It’s never been a secret that Microsoft wants to work toward digital downloads as opposed to an HD media, and this just shows that they’re ready to start working down that path. Oh, and I’m psyched for it!
No Show Or DVD Picks This Week
We’re taking a long holiday break, so it’s looking like we’re not going to be releasing a new episode for next week and I definitely won’t have time to do DVD picks. I’ll write one up for next week, but you’ll have to go a week without us. Sorry.
We hope everyone has a great 4th!
Reminder: Deep Discount and DVD Planet 20% Off Sales End Today!
This is more of a public service announcement than anything. I promise, we’re not getting a dime from the parent company of these sites for all this pimping. It’s just a really good sale and well worth taking advantage of. If you’re the type who waits until the last minute, this is it. If you’re looking for suggestions on stuff to get, check out my guide to great deals at Deep Discount.
SG DVD Picks Special Edition: Last Minute DD Deals
Instead of doing our usual list of what we actually suggest that came out this week along with a deal, I thought I’d come up with a list of DVD’s that are a really great deal that can be picked up during the final days of the Deep Discount sale. Were you to actually buy every single thing I point out in this week’s column, you’d end up blowing just under $700 in one blow. Now you know what I mean about making your wallet scream and bleed. I’m trying to cover as much ground as possible and keep it to really good stuff.
Please remember that all of these prices include free shipping. If you are anxious and don’t want to wait, you can upgrade your shipping method for a pretty reasonable fee. The sale is running through Sunday, June 29th. On to the goodness!
DVD Picks for 6-17-08
Sorry this is a day or so late. Life just got in the way. Anyway, on with this week’s recommendations, but I’m going to put the deal of the day (as opposed to the week) up before the jump!
Deal Of the Week:

Deadwood Complete Series for $89.99 with free shipping at Amazon
I put this first simply because Amazon is running some really good Gold Box deals this week. Today, you can get gritty HBO western for an insanely good deal. Even with their 20% off sales going on, this set would run you $180.22 at DVD Planet and $121.8 at Deep Discount. This is a killer sale. If other sets come up at deals this good throughout the week, I’ll update the site.
On to this week’s picks!
SG DVD Picks for 6/10/08
Here we are. Another week has passed and we’ve got jack squat for good dvd releases. I’ve gone through ten pages of DVD/Bluray releases, and this is what I could come up with. Our deal of the week is pretty sweet, though. One more note: you’re going to see DVD Planet or Deep Discount as the low prices this week as both sites are still running their respective 20% off sales. On to the picks!
DVD Picks Deal Of the Week Update: Deep Discount Sale Is Live!
As a follow-up to our DVD Picks this week, the 20% off sale running at Deep Discount is live right now and is running through June 22nd! Just go to their site, load up your shopping cart, and use any of the one time use coupon codes listed below. You can use each code once, but you can place more than one 20% off order. This sale has helped me build my DVD collection considerably over the past years. It’s a great chance to pick up some Criterions for cheaper than usual as well.

If you hit the site and are completely overwhelmed and have no idea where to start, I always hit the thread for the Deep Discount sale at DVD Talk. People are always posting what they bought there and it should help you get a great idea of stuff to get. One important thing to consider is getting together with some friends and doing one larger order and pay for upgraded shipping and split that extra cost between everyone. They have flat rate shipping at each level, and upgrading your shipping tends to get your stuff shipped out earlier. Granted, I ordered Student Bodies for $8.18 with the free shipping and it’s aready shipped, so do what you will.
DVD Planet also tends to run a concurrent sale that’s going right now. They sometimes have Criterion DVD’s cheaper than Deep Discount, so they’re worth checking out as well. You can find out details at this DVD Talk thread.
