SGR Episode 41 - Spaced

Posted in Episodes by Dave on the July 23rd, 2008

This week, we talk about one of Dave’s all-time favorite TV shows, Spaced.  The brainchild of Simon Pegg and Jessica Hynes is our topic of discussion along with some opinions of The Dark Knight that may be construed by some as more negative than they are.

As for Spaced, check out the video below the flash player, but only watch to about the 2:05 mark if you don’t want to be spoiled on the episode.  This show is amazing!

The Dark Knight is a towering cinematic achievement. I completely agree about how depressing it was though. But that is part of why it’s so impressive. It takes bold risks that even “Important” movies made these days won’t make. How could you not love that hospital scene? That features some of Ledger’s best acting in the film. I’m kind of disappointed that you guys didn’t like it more.

Spaced is indeed glorious. I will never forget experiencing the show last summer. It gave me a major nerdrection.

I gotta say that it isn’t that I didn’t like it. I’m actually going to go see it again with Josh over the next week or so. I really do think it’s an EXTREMELY well done movie.

I really didn’t have a problem with the hospital scene overall. The exchange was great. The acting was great. I just didn’t buy the motivations for the change. Seriously, that’s the one problem I have with the movie. It just seems that there’s been this huge backlash against anyone who says a single negative thing about the movie. All I’m doing is pointing out the one issue I had. The rest of the film is amazing. My other qualm was something I was able to get over. I think it’s a REALLY good movie and I appreciated it. It’s just such a dark movie to me that I didn’t think the word “like” was necessarily appropriate for me. It doesn’t mean I hated the movie.

I was a little more disappointed in Barry’s reaction. It makes me wince that he craps over The Dark Knight but praises stuff like Made of Honor and Alien : Resurrection. I mean, I totally respect his opinion but c’mon Barry.
