Best Worst Movie is going on a theatrical tour

Posted in Movie News by Dave on the March 29th, 2010

I can’t even begin to say how happy to be writing about this news.  We definitely haven’t held back in expressing our love of the documentary, Best Worst Movie.  It even made my Top 10 list of 2009.  I can safely say that this film, coupled with Troll 2, opened my eyes to loving absolutely horrible movies.

Today, director Michael Paul Stephenson announced the first dates of the film’s US theatrical tour.  If this movie comes anywhere near you, you absolutely owe it to yourself to make the drive and catch it.  I can tell you for a fact that if/when it comes ANYWHERE in CO, I’ll be making the at least 2 hour round trip to catch this.  It’s definitely worth it.

Here’s the short list of screenings (most of which will be attended by cast and crew).  For full info, check out the film’s official website.  If your city isn’t listed here, fret not.  More cities are to be announced.  Above all else, GO SEE THIS MOVIE!

April 23 – Austin, TX: Alamo Drafthouse
May 14 – New York, NY: Village East Cinema
May 21 – Los Angeles, CA: Landmark Nuart
June 4 – San Francisco, CA: Landmark Lumiere
June 4 – Berkeley, CA: Landmark Shattuck
July 2 – Washington, D.C.: Landmark E Street Cinema
July 16 - St. Louis, MO: Landmark Tivoli
July 23 - Atlanta, GA: Landmark Midtown Art Cinema

SGR Episode 109 - Matchstick Men

Posted in Episodes by Dave on the March 22nd, 2010

Yes, the official topic of the episode is a wrapup to our Ridley Scott series with a discussion of Matchstick Men, but we spend an equal amount of time (if not more) talking about the cinematic crap classic, The Room.

Could the home video market be coming full circle?

Posted in Editorial by Dave on the March 18th, 2010

If you’ve been watching the retail home video market at all for the past few months, you know that Movie Gallery/Hollywood Video is in dire financial trouble.  It’s even more obvious if you’re a customer of theirs.  In the city I live in, all five Hollywood Video stores have either closed or are in the midst of liquidation within the last six months.  What you may not know is that Blockbuster Video isn’t fairing much better.  They closed 567 stores last year and plan on closing at least another 250 stores this year.  With these once-mighty corporations on the verge of oblivion, could it be the perfect time for the “mom and pop” video stores to rise again?

SGR Episode 108 - Someone To Watch Over Me

Posted in Episodes by Dave on the March 15th, 2010

We knock out another film in the Ridley Scott series and talk about Someone to Watch Over Me.  It turns into a bit more of a debate than we thought it would.  Below, you’ll also find links to the region free player and hack that Dave talked about this week.

Footage of the US pilot of Spaced

Posted in Cool Stuff by Dave on the March 14th, 2010

So the footage of the US pilot of Spaced has popped up online.  Want to know JUST how bad it is?  It’s been on Youtube for at least a year and nobody’s really noticed.  This really doesn’t even qualify as Cool Stuff.  It’s actually crap.  I’m posting this just as evidence of the massive bullet we all dodged when it didn’t get picked up.
